The Truth Shall Set You Free

It has been said that telling the truth is a sure way of becoming poor. But on the other hand, telling the truth and arriving at one’s personal truth is a sure way of reducing cognitive dissonance and gaining command of one’s external reality and surroundings. And when a person arrives at their own personal truth through acknowledging and telling external truths, a person essentially arrives at what they really and truly wanted all along by essentially dropping all the deadweight and surrounding baggage.

Also, getting past appearances and forms in order to get to the essence and reality of things requires an exhaustive education and an individuation process which many people do not have the luxury of undergoing. But the whole point of rational inquiry and a rational way of life is to get past appearances and forms in order to understand and grasp the essence and reality of things. In the Western world, people are led into getting caught up with appearances and forms, whereas in the Eastern world, the emphasis has always been on the essence and reality of things. In medieval times, it was quite common for men to leave their families and livelihoods for weeks and withdraw into a cave in order to escape appearances and forms so that the essence and reality of existence can be grasped.

In the Sufi tradition which I belong to, devotees drop and sacrifice everything in order to grasp and taste the essence and reality of life. And once the essence and reality of life is grasped and tasted by a Sufi, truth sets in. And when truth sets in, appearances and forms are viewed in a different light. Once truth sets in and appearances and forms are seen in a different light after having grasped the essence and reality of existence, you also gain foresight and intuition, to the extent where you can even correctly predict the outcome of a Euro final which many of my followers on Twitter were able to witness this past summer. With the way things are now, the rewards for asceticism and withdrawal and thus the grasp of the essence and reality of existence are attained much easier than in the past when appearances and forms were not as overbearing.

Also in relation to appearance and form versus essence and reality, some people may have noticed that some of the best social media pages have the least amount of followers, whereas pages that are full of baloney and pointless fluff have thousands or millions of followers. Egos such as the “National Security Adviser of Afghanistan” who ended up fleeing and are based on absolutely nothing are essentially manipulated by increasing their number of followers and being invited for interviews on mainstream media channels, whereas truth is either marginalized or suppressed on mainstream and social media platforms. Thus, without having the courage to drop and sacrifice everything for a while in order to grasp the essence and reality of existence and in turn garner the truth about appearances and forms, it is very easy to live a total lie, which is the case for many people.
