The Prophet Muhammad began receiving divine revelations at the age of 40. But receiving revelations for the first time was an incredibly overwhelming, shocking, and traumatic experience for him. The first person he informed upon receiving his first revelations was his wife, Khadijah, who upon hearing the news took the Prophet Muhammad for counsel to her cousin, Waraqah Ibn Nawfal, who was a Christian priest and scholar in Mecca.
Waraqah, a Christian priest and scholar, asked the Prophet Muhammad what he experienced. When he explained his experience, Waraqah informed the Prophet Muhammad that Christian prophecy and Christian scripture had already foretold the arrival of an Arab prophet. Waraqah told the Prophet Muhammad: “That is the same angel whom Allah sent to the Prophet Moses. Should I live till you receive the Divine Message, I will support you strongly.”
In turn, one of the six major pillars of the Islamic faith is to accept Christian prophecy and scripture and to become familiar with Christian prophecy and scripture. Yet another set of facts that are completely downplayed or outright ignored in the mainstream.
