Book Recommendations

“The Secret of Secrets” (“Sirr al-Asrar”) by Muhiyudin Abdul Qadir Jilani. One of the two major books on the rites of initiation into a spiritual organization or spiritual order (Tariqa) in the Islamic tradition. Islam is credited for preserving the tradition of spiritual organizations and spiritual orders in the midst of the degeneration and decay of this all-important tradition within other religions and faith groups. “The Secret of Secrets” is considered to be the prelude to the book below.
“Futuh al-Ghaib” (“The Revelations of the Unseen”); Considered by many to be the second of the two most important books on the rites of initiation into a spiritual organization and spiritual order in the Islamic tradition. One must note that initiation — aside from performing the rites of initiation — is accompanied by a spiritual guide and spiritual epiphany. Without the spiritual guide and spiritual epiphany, it is highly unlikely that one can reach the point of being able to perform the rites of initiation into a spiritual organization or spiritual order.
