“The Sun’s Glowing Castiron Mold” (Rumi)

Today your beauty has another dimension. Today, another rose, a higher lift into the cypress.

The sun’s glowing castiron mold

grows wider than the universe.

No one knows where this commotion comes from, only that it is here.

Look in the eyes of the deer

as it pounces on the lion. There is a wide desert plain in those eyes

that is beyond the two worlds, a madness freer than anything anyone has felt.

A lover empties the ocean. Today is love. Tomorrow the friend.

A lover holds in himself or herself

tomorrows farther than any future.

Saladin is not here. It is no wonder.

A jealous king thinks he must keep changing every moment

the one in charge of his harem.
