“The Power Elite” by the 20th century American sociologist C. Wright Mills. Though subtly put, Mills’ main point was that “great inheriting families” are behind the biggest corporate and political entities in the United States, with the biggest entities being high finance institutions and the Pentagon. These “great inheriting families” then foster the acquisition of people based on personality to surround these institutions, thus enabling these people to acquire the luxury and mistresses which they have been seeking all along as a quid pro quo for shrouding their existence. “The Power Elite” is a seminal text for the understanding of the American system and for the understanding of American foreign policy. A must read to say the least.
