Book Recommendation, August 10, 2022

“The Origins of Totalitarianism” by Hannah Arendt. It is one of the most famous books on political philosophy to have ever been written in the modern period. It is also one of my personal favorite books on politics, political philosophy, and political theory. “The Origins of Totalitarianism” became a best-seller in America when Donald Trump began his presidential campaign between 2015 and 2016. Arendt wrote this book as a German Jew with first-hand experience living under Nazism and escaping it, and Arendt argued that ‘imperialism’ is the initial stage of totalitarianism, as well as the stage that immediately precedes totalitarianism. ‘Imperialism,’ as mentioned on a number of occasions, is an attitude and mentality more than anything else, and this attitude and mentality consists of rationalizing and justifying behavior which consists of attacking and invading countries that never attacked you, rounding people up in places of worship for no reason as was done by neocons, along with spying on people because of their beliefs and their appearance, and allowing ‘high finance’ to fleece regular people of their livelihoods and savings, without any accountability, conscience, justice, or shame whatsoever, all while censoring, hiding, and suppressing all of these things in the mainstream media. A must-read to say the least.
