The United States has only 4 percent of the world’s population, yet it wields 25 percent of the world’s prison population. A poor education system and the refusal to invest in people’s education and socialization on the part of the American state, lack of energy and resources after decades of global hegemony, the inability of the state to co-opt everyone for “The Great Game” and its policy of global hegemony, and the fact that the policy of global hegemony has essentially failed are among the top factors behind why the United States wields 25 percent of the world’s prison population despite having only 4 percent of the world’s population.
