An important point to keep in mind, however, is that far too often, people fall into the trap of entangling the issue of antisemitism or one’s overall relations with Jews with the issue of occupation. To do so amounts to a logical fallacy. It is not logical to entangle the issue of Judaism and Jews as a people with the issue of occupation. To do so, two kinds of scenarios emerge. For one, the entanglement would equate all Jews with the barbarism and transgressions that come with occupation, which in turn amounts to a false equivalence and thus a logical fallacy. And second, to claim that anti-occupation is antisemitic entangles the Jewish issue with occupation in a totally different way. But this second way of entangling the Jewish issue with the occupation issue – namely, by equating antisemitism with anti-occupation – creates and causes antisemitism on a global level, as we are witnessing today.
