One might then wonder or ask: what do the Chinese seek to achieve with their newfound power? To borrow from Howard French, the aims and goals behind overcoming national humiliation for the Chinese are quite basic and simple:
1. Force the Americans along China’s vicinity to get out of the way
2. Exact retribution or revenge against Japan
How America ultimately reacts to China’s push for essentially correcting the centuries-old national humiliation brought upon first and foremost by Japan remains to be seen.
