But at the heart of deterrence is what? At the heart of deterrence is the goal or the objective of stopping others from doing what they want to do. Whether it’s economic or social or military development, the goal or the objective of deterrence is to stop others from doing what they want to do. But does it work? Does deterrence achieve its main goal or objective? The answer is no. Whether it is by conventional or nuclear deterrence, it is futile to try and stop others from doing what they want to do, as long as others have clear goals and objectives which they are intent on pursuing.
