We can sum up our war with Russia or boil it down into three basic elements. For one, there is the balance-of-forces, and as we mentioned before, aside from the virtual equilibrium in terms of aerial and nuclear capabilities, the ground game belongs to Russia. At one point, the Red Army was the most powerful army in the world, and to a large extent, Russia has retained that power, even though they do not deploy it to Eastern Europe anymore. Second, there is doctrine, in the sense that NATO mixes the strategy for total war with the strategy for limited war. NATO is void of doctrine. And third, there is capability. American ground forces, one must note, are highly immobile. Most of America’s retaliatory or strategic ground forces are based in America itself. Airlifting an army division to Eastern Europe or the Middle East or East Asia is an incredibly difficult task. The amount of forces that can be airlifted will not be enough to handle what they are being sent for. Also, they will not be able to get there fast enough, given that Washington is the reactive power, whereas Russia is the proactive power.
