And how do major powers exercise hegemony over Eurasia? There are two theories. For one, there is the “Heartland Theory” which contends that anyone who dominates Eastern Europe and Central Asia will dominate Eurasia. Mackinder was the author of the Heartland Theory. And second, there is the “Rimlands Theory” which contends that if you control Western Europe and Northeast Asia, you will dominate Eurasia. The more viable and credible theory is the Heartland Theory of Mackinder. Which then puts Russia in a superior position, given that Eastern Europe and Central Asia are already under Russian domination and influence.
