Russophobia in America can then perhaps be explained by two factors. For one, Russia is able to project its power anywhere. Second, America then recoils in the face of Russian power while not giving Russia what they want. The underlying condition or sentiment in America is fear and paranoia. The “Red Scare” of the 20th century consisted of practicing emergency drills at schools and in neighborhoods in order to prepare for a Russian attack. The “Red Scare” held America captive in the 20th century, and continues to do so in the present moment.
