“Devil’s Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam” by Robert Dreyfuss. Written by an independent American investigative journalist, it’s a book I read in its entirety a long time ago, but it just came to mind last night in the wake of the terror attack which occurred in Moscow a few days ago. What occurred in Moscow a few days ago fits a pattern which extends not just years, but decades, and it is a pattern which began at the height of the Cold War in the 1970’s and 1980’s. One of the main facets or attributes of the Cold War between Washington and Moscow is the creation of Islamist extremists, fundamentalists, suicide bombers, and terrorists on the part of Washington in order to destabilize the Russian and Chinese spheres of influence. Pakistan, for instance, is an Anglo-American creation intended for the manufacture of suicide bombers and terrorists which are then sent into Russian and Chinese spheres of influence in order to destabilize them. As a result, the ISIS attack on Moscow a few days ago has to be viewed within a broader pattern which extends decades. Iraq got toppled by the United States in order for these extremists to rise. Syria was on the verge of being toppled so that extremists could take over. Libya got toppled by NATO, and now there is ISIS all over Libya. And now Ukraine is involved in the propping up of these terrorists through Western support. In short, Islamist extremism and terrorism is a creation of Washington, and the creation of Islamist extremism and terrorism is a core element of Washington’s Cold War policy towards Russia and China. This policy is also a detriment and obstacle to America being able to achieve what is the core goal of major power competition, namely, winning over the Third World. Major power competition and the Cold War will ultimately be decided in the Third World. But the toppling of progressives and the creation of extremists and terrorists and mafias and criminal gangs in the Third World on the part of Washington ultimately gives Russia and China the advantage in the Third World.
