Nor will anyone be able to find a clear and convincing motive for major power conflict and competition. Washington is driven in large part by the notion that its “way of life” is superior to those of Russia and China. But there is nothing that would prove this notion to be true. In fact, China has more billionaires than the United States now. That is a testament to the superiority of Chinese culture. Russia’s ability to overturn the American unipolar moment of 2001 over the course of the last couple of decades is also a testament to the sophistication of Russian culture. Thus, there is absolutely no reason for Washington to pick fights with Russia and China. Nor will Washington be able to handle the fights when Russia and China decide to punch back. As Mike Tyson said, everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face.
