Second footnote to the post titled “Personal Milieux and Public Structure”

Hegel and Marx. If the historical process encompasses and engulfs change and structure, and change and structure are everything, then we need to define or examine the notion or theory of historical process or historical method. And we have two variations or schools of thought, namely, historical determinism of a Hegelian nature and historical materialism of a Marxist nature. The former espouses the idea or even the belief that world history has a meaning that is to be deciphered and understood, whereas the latter contends that there is no meaning to be deciphered or understood. It all comes down to Hegel and Marx in the very end. In essence, when everyone gives their view or their opinion of something, they are actually giving their interpretation of history to everyone. Anyone who thinks and speaks is actually giving their interpretation of history when they think and speak. And the two interpretations of history to be reckoned with and are to be taken seriously above all the others are those of Hegel and Marx.
