Washington is what one Russian military theorist called a “weak polity.” And what a weak polity does is that it overestimates its own power and underestimates the power of its adversaries. All of which in turn leads to blunders and miscalculations on the part of the weak polity which then prove costly and perhaps even fatal in the long run.
