Tenth footnote to the post titled “The Class Bias”

In sum, through the aforementioned psychoanalytical methods and techniques, what is basically and essentially occurring is the integration of consciousness with the unconscious. The former is illusionary and repressive, while the latter is real and true. Nevertheless, and eventually, the two harmonize and integrate with one another. Once the two are integrated, the individual is healthy, whole, and most importantly, fully functional. In other words, the individual reaches what is known as “self-actualization.” Self-actualization is the highest and most important of human needs, after food, security, and a sense of identity and belonging (Maslow). However, only about one percent of the human population reaches this condition of self-actualization. Given how long and difficult the process of integration or “individuation” and self-actualization actually is.
