And perhaps the most radical and breathtaking assumption of all in what is none other than a world of assumptions about the social world and our collective reality is that thinking itself amounts to nothing other than a substitute for a wish. Thinking conceals what is none other than a wish that seeks to be fulfilled. Thinking is the appearance or the surface of psychic and mental life, and the unconscious wish is the reality or fundamental truth behind psychic and mental life. This is perhaps as far as one can get in what amounts to the farthest frontier or cutting edge or outer boundaries of research and science itself, namely, psychoanalysis.
