Our theory of social reality must also have core assumptions and philosophical underpinnings. At the bottom of every theory which seeks to explain all of social reality are core assumptions and philosophical underpinnings. And when we argue that capitalism explains everything because capitalism is structure and structure explains everything in our social reality, our core assumption and philosophical underpinnings are prompted by what is known as “Social Darwinism.” Whereby the core assumptions and philosophical underpinnings are that “only the strong survive” or “only the smartest survive.” In a globalized economy, brains perhaps prevail over brawns. Nevertheless, the basic concept is the same, in the sense that only the strongest and smartest arise out of cutthroat competition and thus come out on top in this world.
