Socialism is what is known as a “utopian” theory of social reality, along with Islam. In other words, socialism is the way in which the world should be structured. But it is not about the way in which the world should be structured. It is about how the world really is. We want to understand how the world really is. And social reality shows us that capitalism and “Social Darwinism” are what really constitute social reality. Social reality, and the constant changes and transformations which are occurring on what is virtually a daily basis, require adjustment and adaptation. And it requires strength and smarts to adjust and adapt. That is simply the way in which the world works and the way in which the world is structured. There is no cutting around it. If there were cutting around it, then the former Soviet Union would have won the Cold War, and socialism would have been the predominant way of life around the world. But that is not the case. Capitalism remains as the basic structure of the international system, and structure explains everything.
