“You can pay an Afghan, but you can never buy an Afghan.” This was a very famous expression among intelligence and military circles and experts during the Soviet-Afghan war which was coined by a Pakistani general. In turn, this expression goes to show that in the conflict between control and hegemony on one hand and freedom and sovereignty on the other hand, freedom and sovereignty wins out in the very end.
