One Afghanistan expert interestingly wrote that historically, Afghans have always been fond of Westerners. Because Westerners claimed to be Christian, Afghans, as Muslims, considered Westerners to be “People of the Book” along with Jews, and as a result considered Westerners as people whom they could easily mingle with. But when Afghans got a taste of Western imperialism, the perceptions that Afghans had of Westerners changed dramatically. For the worse, one should note. To the point where Western governments have completely been booted out of Afghanistan, leaving Afghans to themselves and with their immediate neighbors and some Western businessmen and tourists who are diehard Afghanistan aficionados.
