To explain all of psychic life, we have two competing theories of psychoanalysis. For one, we have the “pleasure principle” of Freud which we just discussed. And on the other hand, we have Adler’s “will to power.” The “will to power” amounts to an infantile desire to dominate others, which Adler labeled as an illness. Thus, the will to power and thus the will to dominate others is something which we are to abstain from, lest we fall ill. “Havana Syndrome” is case in point.
