And with the appetites in check, the intellect goes on a mystical journey towards union. This journey, one should note, is managed by a spiritual guide. Psychic life, or the life of the soul, has an ultimate goal, and that ultimate goal is union. And on one hand, there is ‘metaphorical union’ which occurs between man and woman when in love. And on the other hand, there is ‘true union’ which occurs at death. ‘Metaphorical union’ is a symbol for ‘true union.’ Nevertheless, the ultimate goal of psychic life or the ultimate goal of the life of the soul is union. Our ultimate truth or reality is therefore mystical in essence and nature.
