Moreover, the prospect or specter of World War III compels us to step back for a moment and consider the basic drivers behind the trek towards such a situation. And of course, our drivers are psychoanalytical, in the sense that the drivers at the most basic and fundamental level are either “hunger and love” or a “love-hate polarity” which governs psychic life, as Freud argued. In the end, it is either love which is driving us, or it is hate. And while it is commonly considered to be unacceptable to hate, one cannot love everyone either. It is simply impossible to love everyone. Thus, hate will always exist to a certain degree and to a certain extent.
