Fifth Note

‘Hagiography’ is the study of saints. The study of their life and their work, artistic and literary. There are three categories of people. Prophets, such as Moses and Jesus and Muhammad. And then there are saints and regular people. The difference between a prophet and a saint is that the former gets direct revelations from the divine, while the latter gets them indirectly. And the difference between saints and regular people is that regular people learn from saints. Thus, there is an entire field or area of study dedicated to the study of saints and their artistic and literary work, known as ‘hagiography.’

Saints are either known to themselves and not known to others, are known to others but not known to themselves, or are known to both themselves and others.
