As has been said: “E Pluribus Unum.” Out of a plethora of ethnic and religious groups – Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara, Uzbek, Turkmen, Kyrgyz, Qizilbash, Arab, Aimaq, Pashai, Nuristani, Hindu, Sikh, Jew, Kochi, Ismaili, Pamiri, Wakhan – we have a mutual recognition of an official dialect and an official national identity, despite the breakdown of social order and civil war and exodus and foreign influence and polarization and social fragmentation and everything else. Culture is unconscious after all, and the unconscious is reality itself. There is perhaps little one can do to undermine it all.
