DC Food Recommendation, April 7, 2025

“Zaytinya” by the famous Jose Andrés. Mediterranean Mezze. Perhaps the most famous chef and food connoisseur and food expert in all of America alongside or after the late Anthony Bourdain. Both were of course friends and contemporaries as well. Andrés is the chef, connoisseur, entrepreneur, restaurateur, culinary artist, writer, and humanitarian par excellence. He has a book titled “Change the Recipe: Because You Can’t Build a Better World Without Breaking Some Eggs.” A level above Salt Bae. A pivot away from Turkish and Middle Eastern to European and Western in terms of class and quality. An upgrade of sorts. “Zaytinya” is perhaps his feature restaurant in America. The Crown Jewel. Of course, he has a bunch of them all throughout America and I’m sure they’re all good. But this is the feature restaurant. I’m going with the shrimp, lamb leg, and lamb chops mezze. Let’s see how it goes.
