“1789 Restaurant and Bar.” Located right near the Georgetown University campus. I’ve spent a lifetime in this area. What’s so significant about the number “1789”? It was the year the US Constitution – but specifically the ‘Bill of Rights’ – was promulgated. It took time for the Constitution to develop to what it is now. It was the year the United States officially became an actual state in the international system. Before that, it was merely a ‘confederation’ of individual states and before that it was a colony of Britain. But the ‘Bill of Rights’ is everything. It’s the social fabric of the United States itself. Destroy the social fabric, you destroy everything. It either takes a natural disaster or a social schism to destroy a government and society. Which one are we in the mood for?
It’s a very intimate and cozy atmosphere and setting, as if you’ve travelled and gone back in time and into the year 1789. For appetizer: ‘Lamb Genovese’ – Hand-Rolled Garganelli, Braised Lamb Shoulder, Ricotta Salata, Mint, Pine Nuts – and for the main course, ‘Wild Sea Bass’ – with Bangs Island Mussels, Farro, and Saffron Emulsion. I don’t even have to try it at this point. I’m sure it’s going to be awesome just by the way it jumps off the menu. You’ll get the review, don’t worry.
