Certain scholars of American literature would perhaps contend that Fitzgerald intended to mold and shape the character of Nick Carraway in his own image. In other words, Nick Carraway was a mirror for Fitzgerald himself and vice versa. But perhaps as a result of what Fitzgerald did, and regardless of what he intended, we all ended up as products of his imagination. At least it seems that way. The already very thin line between imagination and reality is a mere blur after all.
