“Joon.” Located right in the heart of Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. “Joon” translates into “my dear” or “my love” or even “heart” or “soul.” Upscale Persian. Considered by both the Washington Post and New York Times as one of the top 40 or 50 places to eat. The owner and executive chef is a lady named Najmieh Batmanghelidj. I know her. She’s a very nice, sweet old lady. And she’s actually very well-known to the American cultural and social elite. It’s her husband who is actually from the Batmanghelidj clan. She married into the Batmanghelidj clan. He is a writer and philosopher. To put it all into context, the Batmanghelidj clan is to the pre-revolution Iranian monarchy and likewise my mother’s clan – the Waziri clan – was and is to the pre-Soviet invasion Afghan monarchy as say, the Mountbatten clan was and is to the ‘House of Windsor’ and thus the British monarchy in England. Royalty. Aristocracy. Nobility. I have very good friends from the Batmanghelidj clan. Very good friends. They’re the nicest people ever. Like always ends up attracting like in the very end. For dinner, we will start with ‘Kashk e Bademjan’ (eggplant) along with lamb and pistachio meatballs for appetizer, and the branzino for two as the main dish. You’ll be getting the review of course in due time.
