Exploring the DC Food Scene, June 29, 2025

‘Nobu’ in Georgetown. Nobu Matsuhisa is a Japanese chef, restauranteur, entrepreneur, and luxury hotel developer. You can always find me eating something good or at a nice hotel relaxing. He’s my type of guy I guess. I finally found my match in this world. Nobu made a splash by adding a Peruvian enhancement or twist to traditional Japanese food and fare. Sushi is the main feature here, but you get everything from bite size tacos to meat skewers and Japanese style tapas or mezze. Legend has it that Nobu opened his first restaurant in New York City in 1994 upon the request of the famous actor Robert De Niro. Nobu introduced “a taste that changed the world.” It’s all about taste and intuition in the very end. He has 56 restaurants around the world, along with 38 Nobu hotels around the world.
Nobu also has exclusive rights to sell the most exclusive kind of Japanese Sake in the world. Exclusivity. Japanese Sake is of sentimental value to me. Reminds me of the days I went barhopping at Toronto’s ‘Distillery District’ as a grad student and I tried Japanese Sake for the first time. Felt nice. We will save it for the end perhaps. We will down everything with it. You’ll have the food review shortly.
