For one, the libido is either introverted into neurosis. Or two, the libido is sublimated through education and sex into refined taste. Hence, the existentialists and their argument that anxiety is at the heart of everything. Anxiety is then explained by either sinfulness or sexual repression. Therefore, the libido had to overcome all odds as well as a very dire situation of systemic collapse as a result of insurmountable debt and dysfunction to sublimate itself and to avoid introversion and thus neurosis.
