There are essentially two kinds of languages in our world: elite and vernacular. English, along with German and a number of others, one should note, is a vernacular language in the West. The elite language in the West is actually French. Likewise, Turkish and Pashto and Kurdish and Urdu and Hindi and all the rest are vernacular languages in West Asia, Central Asia, and South Asia, and Dari or Farsi is the elite language in that region of the world. Just an odd fun fact to throw out there.
