“Vola’s Dockside Grill” (Addendum to the review)

For instance, due to a shortage of wheat as a result of a drought that coincided with the start of the ‘Great Depression’ and thus coincided with the surge in unemployment and workers’ strikes, the workers in New Orleans would use flour instead of wheat to make the bread for the sandwich, hence the white roll instead of your ordinary bread or bun. They say necessity is the mother of creation, and the ‘Po’ Boy’ reinforces this idea perfectly. And even now, with insurmountable debt and dysfunction plaguing the public sector and a surge in population growth and demand for goods and products globally, perhaps the best way forward would be to downsize and minimize as much as possible. Extravagance and luxury shouldn’t be top of mind. We should all have at least some empathy for those who are struggling at the moment. We should all cut back and reduce something from our consumption in solidarity with those who are struggling at the moment, even if it’s small and insignificant.
