Said Omar is a beloved and esteemed artist and musician amongst the Afghan community here in Northern Virginia and amongst the Afghan diaspora at-large. One of the most common and most basic themes of Afghan music as a whole is a longing for a return to one’s roots from exile and exodus and the ongoings amidst that exile and exodus and disconnect and separation from one’s roots. Which of course makes much of Afghan music futuristic and ahead of its time as well.
