“Mast Shodam Saqi” – مست شدم ساقی

Artist: Ahmad Zahir. Rough Translation: “You turn me on, oh beautiful one. Turn me on and get me drunk off your love again tonight. Be rebellious again and cause a ruckus again but with me tonight. You turned me on with just a tidbit of your charm and wit. Do it again, and I’ll burn alive. Let’s wine and dine together, and let’s do what each of us do but together, as one, slowly and gradually. It’s a long game after all. The authorities will of course want to break us up and split us apart and censor us and cancel us. But they do this to everyone, not just to you and I. Censorship and repression is what they seek to impose and inflict on everyone. You should know how difficult my work is, oh beautiful one. It looks easy, but it’s not. The finest steel has to go through the hottest fire I guess. The authorities want to break us, oh beautiful one. They’re cruel and unjust. But fortunate is the one who’s drunk off the Dionysian flow and stream. So therefore, I wouldn’t sell and trade this drunken flow and stream for anything, even if that’s what the authorities seek. As long as I’m alive, I’ll be a devotee and follower of Dionysus and his drunken inspiration and long lost theosophy.”
