Summer Road Trip, 2025 (Verse Sixteen)

And to close out, if I’m in the south, if I came all this way, I should have southern bbq. ‘It would only be right. For good measures.’ So I went with what some of the locals recommended to me: Midwood Smokehouse. Considered by some of the locals to be the best that this area has to offer in terms of southern bbq. Word of mouth. Based on one review: “This place is a slap in the face, mouth watering, knock your momma down my kind of BBQ.” That’s my kind of place. Fits my persona and reputation perfectly. For appetizer, ‘Midwood Wings’ – smoked, with either the Midwood original bbq sauce or North Carolina vinegar sauce. Or both! And for the main course, Texas prime beef brisket, moist and lean mixed, with Mac & Cheese on the side. Let’s see how it goes. Let’s see if there’s any difference between what I’ve had at home in Northern Virginia and deeper down south.
Wings came out on a hot skillet, burning and sizzling hot. Creative. Smart.
Sour, crispy cucumber caught my attention. When you fold each slice of the brisket down the middle, you basically layer the half which is fat over the half which is meat, and then if you pour some sauce over it, stick a fork into it, and then bite into it, it’s heaven in your mouth. I see why the locals direct and divert everyone here. I can see clearly now. I know now. I’m good.
