After a brief experiment with ‘liberal democracy’ in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, a member of the Afghan Royal Family decided that he would side with military generals and the police to put a lid on all of it, given all the foreign meddling and foreign influence. Bribery and corruption and all the rest. Chaos and upheaval. Polarization and social fragmentation. So that’s what he did. He succeeded. But a fateful dance and flirtation with the white, blue-eyed devil – namely, Washington – led to his elimination at the hands of Russia, a lot like what is going on with Ukraine right now. Nevertheless, it’s a basic choice between liberal democracy and autocracy in the very end. And autocracy always wins out. Always.
