It follows that the greatest contradiction and paradox of them all is reconciled or resolved by the fact that “the flesh wins out” over religion, but at the same time, reason is expected to prevail over passion, given that the wrath of God is brought on by “passions of the soul” to borrow from Camus. And this can occur only by cultivating and developing the mental and rational faculties through contemplation and deep literacy. Interestingly, it then allows us to distinguish between what is divine and what is merely moral.
