Simply put, even if the UN Charter does not supersede individual state sovereignty, which it doesn’t, the United Nations is still an important symbol for global public opinion and thus an important symbol for the global balance of power, and that is all you need as either an individual or a state in order to anticipate and shape outcomes in international affairs and international society. Hence, the United Nations is not as meaningless and worthless as we assume it is.
