And even though philosophy is dead and art is hollowed out and psychoanalysis is taboo, if we take up these fields as an approach to history, politics, and foreign policy, we realize that these fields are far more useful and meaningful than the flinging of historical facts at each other’s faces, the toxicity of politics, and what is now the failure of American foreign policy.
