What goes on in the richest and thus most important city in the whole wide world – New York – is perhaps emblematic of what is going on not just in the country, but in the world as a whole. You have a divide between the Old New York as embodied and personified by Andrew Cuomo and Italian and Jewish millionaires and billionaires on one hand, and then you have the New New York as embodied and personified by Zohran Mamdani and the Halal Bowl or Halal Platter on the other hand. Two distinct and personal milieux coming to the fore and thus into the public structure. Like I said, I belong to the Old New York. I am of that milieu. I was born in that milieu. And that milieu, while it has its beauty and charm, is also plagued by the kind of greed and warmongering that is ravaging the system and thus the world as a whole at the present moment.
