An episteme is defined as “the set of ideas and assumptions, often unconscious, that underlie and constrain what is accepted as knowledge in a particular period.” Or it can mean “paradigm” or “understanding.”
In a word, Freud and Marx, given the basic psychosocial idea or assumption or paradigm which contends that control and repression emanating from the very top serves as the leitmotif or overall theme of human history.
