The indifference amongst the armchairs and ivory towers and bubbles and echo chambers towards the fate of the American bureaucrat and citizen and soldier alike is not only radical and stunning, but it is also genocidal and sociopathic, and it is a kind of indifference which no one is willing to fight and die for. It’s all about what one is willing to fight and die for in a Hobbesian state of nature and a global power vacuum and void like this one. Which means the red lines and the lines in the sand we always draw will continue to shift until we realize that it’s all about what we are literally willing to fight and die for and thus the lines will be drawn around what is existential and vital. Not around a flight of fancy or a war of choice.
