And just as individuals rely on routine and structure in order to get by, so does the universe and the world we live in, in the sense that we are now going back to the way things always were before two and a half centuries of Anglo-American global conquest and military hegemony: a rich and vibrant Asia and Middle East, and a poorer and more dysfunctional West. Two and a half centuries amounts to very little when you count millennia. In order to know the present, we must take a long view of history. And when one takes a long view of history, two and a half centuries pales in comparison to millennia.
