And given that complete self-control is a mere illusion, the difference becomes one between the repression of the impulses and instincts or their sublimation through education and learning and the refinement of preference and taste through connoisseurship and experimentation. And to enable all of this, a complete reorganization and restructuring of both state and society needs to take place. Which is easier said than done, given the resistances and repression of reactionary and retrogressive elements and forces in both state and society.
