Arguably, the twin pressures on Washington are the inability of Washington to contain Sino-Russian expansion on one hand and the predominant view of the American public as well as certain segments of both the Democratic Party and Republican Party that interventionism is no longer worth it. Whether Washington ultimately balks in the face of these twin pressures remains to be seen.
