Northern Virginia Chill Pill, November 15, 2025

We are back in Bailey’s Crossroads, but in particular the ‘Skyline’ area which one could say is Northern Virginia’s equivalent of Steinway Street in Astoria, New York. “Balqees” is a very casual food and hookah spot which offers a combination of Lebanese and Yemeni dishes. I go virtually everywhere for anything, or at least I used to, but when I’m in the mood for Yemeni food, this is the spot. Enjoy a nice ‘Lamb Haneeth’ and then down it with ‘Adani Chai’ and grape hookah. “Balqees” is the Arabic name for the Queen of Sheba whom Solomon – the king of Israel – subdued and took down and then married or at least had a romantic relationship with. Balqees was the ancient equivalent of Queen Victoria of Britain at the end of the 19th century and dawn of the 20th century. And of course, Solomon was the rising power who threatened her dominance and rule and in the end subdued her and took her down. But after subduing her and taking her down, she is believed to have converted to his religion and married him. Or at least had a romantic affair and relationship with him. Books and prayer enhanced Solomon’s libido and sex drive to the point where he had sexual encounters with at least a thousand women. This is either “the perfect ending, or just the beginning.” We shall see. And we will throw the review in here as well. The “lamb haneeth” is to die for. So there you have it. Enjoy.
